Our Story
We are a sister run floral design business, passionate about making life more beautiful. Our story began at the ages of 7 and 5, when we spent summers cutting and arranging flowers on our family farm located in Little Compton, Rhode Island.
we never imagined that we would own a floral design business together, however our passion for flowers and design became evident when we found ourselves designing flowers for family friend’s weddings and local restaurants.
In 2016, we made the decision to transform our passion into our profession and founded Young Designs. As the third generation of floral designers in our family, we hold our farm roots dear and take great pride in that heritage.
Retail Store
After the pandemic, we made the decision to relocate our business from the Boston area to Newport, RI.
In 2020, we opened a retail store, offering a diverse selection of products including premium floral designs, home decor, unique gifts, and a variety of plants. Our store is located on Upper thames street (close to the Newport Bridge exit, before Washington Square).
Co-Owner Hattie Young
Hattie graduated from The University of New Hampshire, and prior to starting Young Designs she worked for two premier floral designers in Boston, MA.
Hattie loves tennis, the beach, organizing, and her husband Tim. She tends to stress over the small stuff because she is very detail oriented. You can find her watching Netflix to unwind from a long wedding weekend or stressful day.
Her all time favorite flowers are really any locally grown flowers, but if she had to pick one variety it would be local Dahlias. If you find yourself emailing with Hattie, she tends to use a lot of exclamation marks. She is very passionate about her work and likes to bring that out in her email communication with you!
When she isn’t dreaming up vision boards, designing arrangements or container gardens you can find her at the beach, spending time with her Golden Doodle Gertie and husband Tim, or staying active with long walks outdoors.

Co-Owner Sarah Young
Sarah is the younger of the two sisters, she has a take charge attitude and bubbly personality. She was in her last year at Boston University studying business when she and Hattie started Young Designs.
Sarah loves learning new things and being challenged, otherwise she tends to get bored. Problem solving is her forte, she loves the challenge of a situation most people think is impossible. No matter how many wedding ceremonies she watches, she tears up at every single one. She loves most flower varieties but if she had to choose one, it would be sweet pea.
She ran the 2017 Boston Marathon and the Newport Half Marathon in 2023. Who knows what is next!
When Sarah is not working you can find her spending time with her Fiance Matt and Golden Doodle Gus….
Fun Fact: We both have Golden Doodles and they are litter mates! Their names are Gertie and Gus! They have their own Instagram if you’d like to meet them!
